Designed for the most varied environments in harmony with people and the planet
by Patricia Anastassiadis
Alcheme is the sixth collection developed by Patricia Anastassiadis, in her six years as Artefacto's creative director. During that period, the national market witnessed the birth of an unprecedented family of products, all of strong conceptual accuracy and production excellence, from which the new furniture are legitimate descendants. "I always try to provide a sense of continuity to my work as the head of the brand. One collection never overlaps the other. On the contrary, it expands our range of possibilities'', says Patricia.
"Here is my alchemical challenge: to transform, with each collection, what is already of solid existence"- Patricia Anastassiadis
Being more inclined to an ideal of evolution rather than one of rupture, it is not surprising that the architect and designer sought in Alchemy - the mythical medieval science whose objective was the transmutation of one element into another - the primordial inspiration to compose the new line of furniture, which has the research of new materials as one of its cardinal points. "I believe we are experiencing a moment of transformation. Based on carefully observing in order to find a way to convert material, even the apparently worthless ones, into something precious", she says.
Transposed into our daily lives - more specifically to the microcosm of a house that seeks to be in harmony with its residents, but also with the planet -, the alchemical ideal of transmutation is manifested in the collection through furniture that is essential, but also elaborate. A collection in which the formal originality opens the door to the surprising: the pleasure of soft-to-touch upholstery. Tops that suddenly migrate from one material to another. Surfaces that appear to be in a state of fusion.
In pursuit for the alchemists' elixir of life - a potion that supposedly grants the drinker eternal life, or translated into the context of design, long life to furniture and objects - Patricia composes a transversal, agile and flexible collection. Capable of serving multiple purposes and still able to navigate with ease through the most varied domestic, corporate or mixed spaces. "Thinking about longevity, about furniture that lasts through generations, for me, is also thinking about sustainability", she points out.
A modular sectional sofa of "a la carte'' dimensions. An armchair with a stool. A shelf with no defined configuration. A multiple-use closet, a chair with undefined vocation, and also a set of tables with hinged tops. Eight "transmutable" pieces of furniture which do not strain from the excellence of Artefacto’s fatto a mano and its half-century high standard of sophistication. "Here is my alchemical challenge: to transform, with each collection, what is already of solid existence", summarizes Patricia.
